Prevention Programming
Exclusive Services
Prevention Awareness Support Services offers mental wellness and prevention programming to varied audiences throughout West Central Ohio. Under contracts with Mental Health Boards (ADAMH) and a variety of other funding sources, PASS staff present evidence based programs to meet specific outcomes. Our popular school-based programs focus on substance use prevention, pro-social emotional learning, and suicide prevention. We also offer programming for adults who are parenting children from newborn through adolescence. Our primary adult prevention programs provide a overview of mental wellness and developing mental health challenges to enhance early recognition and intervention to prevent challenges from becoming worse.
Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) is a pre-booking jail diversion program designed to improve the outcomes of police interactions with people with people with mental illness. CIT equips officers to interact with individuals experiencing a psychiatric crisis. More

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge. Youth Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors and health and human services workers and any other citizen how to identify, understand and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is a one to two hour educational program designed to teach lay and professional "gatekeepers" the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. Gatekeepers can include anyone who is strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide (e.g., teachers, couches, bus drivers, and school facility members). The process follows three steps:

Question the individual's desire or intent regarding suicide,

Persuade the person to seek and accept help, and
-
Refer the person to appropriate resources. More

Provides structured one-to-one, strength-based support services.
Provide interventions and support to achieve established treatment goals that are assigned as part of an integrated service team for the youth.
Supports, coaches, and educates the youth in age-appropriate behaviors, conflict resolution, problem-solving, positive peer and family relationships, and emotional regulation.
Provides connections to age-appropriate recreational and social activities.
Help to ensure the youth's success in navigating various social contexts, learning new skills, and making functional progress.
Engages the youth in discussions about strategies for getting and using help and creating positive expectations for the future.

Ages served: Kindergarten to age 24

This program is only in Logan and Champaign Counties and all referrals to the program must be done by contacting either the Champaign County FCFC or the Logan County FCFC.
Triple P - Positive Parenting Program
Triple P is an evidence-based program that provides a system of varying levels of intervention to meet families' needs. Led by the Nationwide Children's Hospital's Early Child Mental Health Program, it is committed to expanding prevention services and parenting support for families.
